The Science behind StormPlus
Today, 1 in 6 Americans now live in a county abutting the Eastern Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico coast. By 2010, the coastal population is expected to double. The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) uses a combination of wind speeds and proximity to the ocean to identify its four zones for building codes. Marvin Stormplus offers high performance windows and doors to meet building requirements in all four hurricane resistant construction zones, which cover 138 counties in 16 states. StormPlus products are named to coincide with the widely-recognized ASTM zones referenced within International Building codes, thereby eliminating any guesswork in your selection.
High pressure tests. Higher performance.
Construction experts have long recognized that window protection represents an integral part of a building's defense against hurricane winds. So it's no small feet to meet the requirements of the fenestration tests required by impact resistant construction codes. To simulate flying debris, 2x4 studs are shot at 40-50 feet per second (27-34mph) depending on code requirements. The final test requires the window or door to be loaded into a pressure chamber that creates cycles simulating the pulsing action of winds in a hurricane. StormPlus passes every test with flying colors. Whether in the lab or in the heart of the storm, StormPlus always outperforms
